Download the Application for Concession Rate form

If you are seeking to volunteer with an organisation and need a National Police Record Check, you may be eligible to receive this at a reduced fee. Applicants will first need to contact the organisation concerned to determine if they are eligible to receive the concession rate.

To receive the Concession Rate, organisations who have volunteers need to apply to Tasmania Police Criminal History Services and be approved. The   for the Concession Rate for National Police Record Checks needs to be completed by an organisation in advance of any prospective volunteers applying for their individual Police Record Check.

To be considered for the Concession Rate an organisation must meet specific criteria. The below is provided as a guide to the criteria your organisation’s application may be assessed against.

  • The organisation is a registered approved charity.
  • The individual must not receive renumeration for the work they undertake for the organisation. Reimbursement of direct expenses will not necessarily disqualify the individual from receiving the rate.
  • The organisation or any subsidiary (branch) of the organisation must be non-profit.
  • The organisation must provide a benefit to the public in general. If the role of the individual is primarily for the benefit of the organisation or the individual participant, then the individual may not be eligible to receive the rate.
  • The organisation has a sole or dominant purpose that is charitable. A charitable purpose includes a benevolent, philanthropic, or patriotic purpose and any purpose for the protection of the environment or the welfare of animals.

Process:

  1. The organisation will need to download the Application for Concession Rate for National Police Checks form or contact Criminal History Services (Ph. 03 6173 2928) Department of Police, Fire and Emergency Management to request a form.
  2. The Application for Concession Rate for National Police Checks form then needs to be completed and returned to Criminal History Services.
  3. Applications will be assessed against the eligibility criteria and an outcome will be provided to the applying organisation in writing. An outcome will generally be provided within 2 business days.

Remember, organisations cannot receive the concession rate without specific authorisation from Tasmania Police.  Requests for National Police Record checks for volunteers should not be submitted at Service Tasmania prior to the organisation being advised of the outcome of the application.

  1. Once your organisation has been notified that they ARE eligible for the concession rate, prospective volunteers can then complete and submit the standard National Police Record Check application. They will need to additionally complete section 5 of this form: Declaration of Volunteer/Concession status.

Tasmania Police reserves the right to change eligibility criteria for the concession rate and reassess all previously approved organisations or require those organisations to re-register should the need arise.
