Youths charged with multiple offences across southern district
Police have charged three youths with a crime spree across Southern Tasmania between August and October this year.
On 12 October 2023, police recovered a vehicle which had recently been stolen from Howrah in the Carlton area.
Two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old were arrested within a nearby private residence.
It will be alleged between August and October 2023, the youths entered multiple private dwellings in Howrah, Rokeby, Lindisfarne and New Norfolk, removing car keys and subsequently stealing vehicles from those residences. The youths also allegedly targeted unlocked vehicles.
Police will also allege the youths drove a stolen vehicle over the Bowen Bridge at 200km/h, before evading police.
The youths were charged with 41 offences, including aggravated burglary, stealing, dangerous driving, motor vehicle stealing, evade police, drug offences, unlicenced driving offences, graffiti offences and breaching court bail.
Two of the youths were detained in custody to appear in court today. The third youth was conditionally bailed.
Police would like to take the opportunity to remind members of the public to keep valuables out of sight and keep vehicles and residences locked when not in use to avoid becoming an easy target.
