Youths charged following Devonport disturbance

Four youths will be proceeded against under the Youth Justice Act following a disturbance in Devonport yesterday afternoon.

 

Police were called to a report of a disturbance in Best Street, Devonport, about 3.30pm yesterday.  It was alleged that one group of youths had been assaulted by a second group of youths while allegedly in possession of a knife.  Police attended and quickly took four alleged offenders into custody nearby.

 

Investigations revealed that the offenders had allegedly threatened to use a knife, however none of the four offenders were in possession of a knife during the incident.  Members of both groups were known to each other and no other members of the community were placed at risk.

 

As a result, two male youths aged 11 and 12 and two female youths aged 13 and 14 are to be proceeded against under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act for their alleged involvement in the incident.
