A 14-year-old youth from Gagebrook has been charged following an incident on 20 May where a rock was thrown at a Metro bus causing damage to the windscreen.

The youth will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Inspector Jim Semmens from Glenorchy Police said police have been investigating reports of rock-throwing at Metro buses in the Bridgewater and Gagebrook area that have resulted in damage to buses and the withdrawal of services to protect drivers, passengers and community members.

“These incidents are uncommon, but when they happen, they are very dangerous.”

“Throwing rocks at any vehicle is unacceptable and dangerous, particularly in the case of heavy vehicles like buses as it places the driver, passengers, and members of the community in danger.”

“I would like to thank the community for assisting with this investigation.”

“Tasmania Police is committed to investigating all information received for these types of incidents,” said Inspector Semmens.
