Wynyard Crash Names Released

Police have released the name of the female passenger, who was killed in a crash at Wynyard on Tuesday, 21 June 2016.

16-year-old Hayley Maree Best, of Henrietta, and her two-month-old baby son were passengers in a cream coloured Toyota Corolla hatch which was entering onto the Bass Highway when it appeared to travel into the path of a west-bound Mack prime mover towing an un-laden semi-trailer.

Both Ms Best and her baby passed away as a result of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota remains in the North West Regional Hospital where he is listed as being in a stable condition.

He is the father of the deceased baby and he has asked that his son’s name not be released.

Investigations into the incident are on-going and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles prior to the collision is asked to contact Burnie Police on 131 444.
