At about 7.25pm Wednesday 2 November 2011 a 61 year old Longford male resident disturbed two males breaking into his house.

As a result the man was set upon by the two males who hit him over the head and stabbed him a number of times with a knife.

The two males then ran and jumped over a fence into a neighbouring yard and fled on foot.

Police attended along with Tasmania Ambulance Service and the victim was taken to the Launceston General Hospital for treatment.

Launceston Criminal Branch attended and investigations are continuing in relation to the incident.
