World Champion Cyclist Injured In Hit-Run Crash

Multiple world cycling champion Macey Stewart has been injured in a hit and run crash, in Devonport.

At about 2.05pm on Thursday the 30th of October 2014, Macey was on a training ride and travelling south on Tarleton Street, East Devonport. Outside the Argosy Motel, she was hit by a car from behind and knocked to the road.

The vehicle that struck her stopped briefly at the scene, before leaving.

Macey was lucky to escape serious injury, and has since been released from hospital.

Police believe that they have found the offending vehicle and it is currently undergoing forensic examinations.

However, police would still like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, saw a dark coloured sedan in the area or who may be able to identify the driver of the vehicle involved. Police would particularly like to speak to the driver of the north-bound truck that had to stop suddenly to avoid the fallen cyclist.

The investigating officer, Constable Dean Wotherspoon, of Western District Road and Public Order Services, can be contacted on 131444. If callers want to remain anonymous they can call CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.
