Woman remains in critical condition with burns

A 20 year old woman remains in an induced coma in the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne after what police allege is a family violence incident on 24 April 2017.  The woman is not expected to emerge from this condition for months.  The woman’s condition is described as critical and life threatening.

Detectives from Glenorchy CIB flew to Melbourne last week to speak with family and medical specialists.

The next of kin has asked for privacy until such a time as they are able to make a statement.  Media reports about the condition of the young woman should be restricted to official media releases by Tasmania Police.

The man accused of causing grievous bodily harm and other matters has been remanded in custody to appear in the Supreme Court on 13 June 2017.  He did not apply for bail.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
