Winkleigh House Fire
At 5.30pm on 5 August 2013, police and Tasmania Fire Service were notified of a house fire at Rookery Road, Winkleigh.
The dwelling, a privately owned three bedroom weatherboard house was totally destroyed whilst the owners were out. The cause of the fire is still being investigated with fire scene examiners attending the address today. A gun safe with the door open, was located inside the remains of the house and police are currently investigating to determine if any firearms are missing.
Earlier that day at 4.40pm a dwelling at Flowery Gully Road was broken into a number of pieces of jewellery were stolen. The offenders were disturbed by the owner returning home and they fled in an early 90s bubble shaped Ford Laser 4 door hatchback.
The offenders are described as male, around 16 to 17 years of age, of slim to medium build. Both were wearing grey hoodies. Police believe the two incidents may be related and ask anyone who saw a white Laser in the Winkleigh or Flowery Gully area yesterday to contact Northern CIB on 6336 3911 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
