West coast crash
Queenstown Division police have attended a spate of vehicle crashes on the west coast in recent days. This follows on from a fatal crash on Henty Road between Strahan and Zeehan less than ten days ago. In the last month west coast police have responded to ten vehicle crashes, with three in the last 24 hours. These last three crashes have involved drivers failing to take corners which are well marked and with advisory speed signs.
The latest crash occurred at about 9.30am Monday 28 November when a fully laden B double truck travelling north on the Zeehan Highway collided with a red Victorian registered Jeep. The Jeep had crossed to the incorrect side of the road whilst attempting to negotiate a left hand corner and into the path of the truck. The two occupants of the Jeep, a couple from Zeehan were taken to the Queenstown hospital. The male driver was released and his female passenger was taken to the North West Regional Hospital for further checks. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Police would like to remind drivers that they need to take care when travelling on winding roads and in particular they need to slow down prior to corners. Advisory signs are provided for drivers and they should pay attention and take note of the advised speed for cornering. If anyone witnessed the red Jeep travelling from Zeehan towards Queenstown prior to the crash they are asked to contact Sgt Gavin White at Queenstown Police on 6471 3020 or via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
