Welcome – Recruit Course 1/2016

20 new Police recruits will be inducted into the Tasmania Police Academy this afternoon.

The scales are equally balanced for Recruit Course 1/2016; of the 20 recruits there is an equal gender split, 10 women and 10 men.

Two of the female recruits have participated in the Tasmania Police Career Development program. The CDP program is specifically aimed at Year 12 students from around Tasmania who have a keen interest in becoming a police officer. It is a free, four-day program during which students will experience first-hand what police recruit training involves.

18 year olds, Recruit Hannah Wall and Recruit Naomi Gee, have pursued their dreams of becoming a police officer and also have strong retail backgrounds.

Recruit Jeremy Blyth has moved his family, including 5 young children, from Flinders Island to join Recruit Course 1/2016. He previously worked on oil tankers, research vessels, tugs and oil rig supply vessels.

Several of the candidates have relocated to Tasmania specifically to join Tasmania Police.

Recruit Stephen Barrow has relocated from Victoria to re-join Tasmania Police.  He previously served between 1991 and 1996.

Recruit Blake Nolan has moved back to family connections in Tasmania having spent time in Perth, Western Australia. He was previously employed as a Safety & Incident Management Officer at Christmas Island Detention Centre.

“There are exciting times ahead for our 20 new recruits, as they learn the ropes of policing and settle in to new environments,” said Commissioner Darren Hine.

“Course leaders Sergeant Stacey and Senior Constable Lang will be with them every step of the way, to guide the recruits through the challenges and encourage their professional development,” he said.

We look forward to hearing about the recruits’ progress and watching their careers take shape.
