Police have charged a 30-year-old Waverley man with Evading Police with Aggravating Circumstances following an incident in Launceston this morning.

Around 10:30am police attempted to intercept a red Toyota hatch in the Coles carpark on Charles Street. The driver of the vehicle evaded police by ramming the marked police car and collided with an unoccupied parked vehicle before speeding away.

As part of the subsequent investigation, Launceston Police searched a Waverley residence, located and seized the vehicle involved, and arrested the driver.

He was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court later tonight.

The police vehicle and parked vehicle sustained moderate damage.

No one was injured.
