Warning on fake notes
Launceston Criminal Investigation Branch is currently investigating two reports involving the passing of counterfeit $100 notes at local fast food outlets. Two separate incidents have been reported in the Launceston area this week.
On each occasion a $100 note has been used to purchase small quantities of food at the “drive through” of local KFC and Hungry Jacks outlets. Whilst the notes appear to be of a reasonable quality on one side, the reverse side of both notes is fairly poor.
“We are asking people to be on the look out for any currency, particularly $100 notes, which they believe may be counterfeit,” said Detective Senior Sergeant Ruth Orr.
“People involved in the retail industry should be aware of these incidents and contact police if they are suspicious of any notes they receive.”
Any information in relation to the counterfeit notes can be passed to the Launceston CIB on 6336 3911 or please contact Crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
