Vegetation fires lead to a police arrest
A 28 year old Claremont man is in police custody tonight after a number of vegetation fires were lit in the Herdsman’s Cove and Old Beach area today. In the early afternoon, Police and the Tasmania Fire Service responded to 9 deliberately lit fires in grassland in the area. Public assistance and police investigations led them to a suspect who was nearby.
Sergeant KLUG states “This behaviour is disappointing and one that can place life and property at risk. Matters of this nature are taken seriously by police”. Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance in identifying the male responsible.
