Update – serious assault at Waverley

Police have seized a 1984 yellow single cab Mazda Utility from the lake in Waverley.

Detective Inspector Philippa Burk said that police were investigating whether there is any link from this vehicle and the serious assault on the male victim in the LGH.

“Police would like to thank members of the public who have contacted them so far in relation to this utility,” Detective Inspector Burk said.

“Police continue to seek assistance from any members of the public who may have seen this utility last evening between 10pm until 12.30am this morning. In particular, whether the utility may have been seen in the suburbs of Prospect, West Launceston, Invermay and Waverley.

“Investigating detectives from Launceston CIB are confident that they know the identity of the male victim, however this is still to be confirmed.

“The victim is still stable but remains sedated. Due to the injuries to his face he is going to require facial reconstruction surgery.

“Police encourage members of the public to continue to provide them with any information to assist this investigation. Police would again thank and commend the Launceston public for their assistance with information so far.”

Police and Tas Ambulance personnel were called to the intersection of Naroo Street and Tasman Highway, Waverley, about 12.30 this morning, where a man had been located with serious head injuries.
