Update on search for Rachel Funari

A tracker / detection dog unit deployed in the Bruny Island search for Rachel Funari has not found any trace of the missing woman today.

The dog unit spent today searching walking tracks and foreshore at the base of cliffs in the Fluted Cape area.

Late today an excavator was used to unearth an area indicated by the dog, but wallaby remains were found.   The dog unit will return to New South Wales tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning two police dive teams (4 divers) will be deployed to search coastline near the walking track.  The land search team has been scaled back.

“We are confident we have thoroughly searched an extensive area where inquiries indicate it is most likely Ms Funari was headed,” said Inspector Doug Rossiter.

Ms Funari’s sister has travelled to Tasmania from the United States and will be escorted by police to the search area tomorrow.   Police have been in regular contact with Ms Funari’s family about the progress of the search.

Police are continuing to focus on other aspects of the investigation, including reported possible sightings of Ms Funari.
