Update on Kingston baby investigation

Investigations are continuing following the discovery of the remains of a newborn baby girl in a park at Kingston on 17 October 2011.

The evidence suggests the birth may have occurred in the park or nearby.  Other considerations however are not excluded from those inquiries.

“It is possible that the baby’s mother or father may not have even disclosed the pregnancy to health or medical authorities, or even family and friends.  If this is the case or even if the pregnancy is known to someone else, police would ask that someone be it a health or welfare worker, police or support group, are notified that the mother is well.  This might even be done anonymously,” said Acting Inspector Craig Joel.

“Police will continue to make inquiries on behalf of the Coroner to try and establish the circumstances leading to the discovery of the baby girl.  Without conclusive forensic evidence or assistance from the mother or her friends and family, it may be the identity of the baby girl and her parents is never known.”
