During searches conducted this morning, in response to the reported firearm discharges at Mayfield and Invermay on the evening of the 16th March, a 21 year old man from Prospect was taken into custody.

Officers from Northern District, uniform, RPOS and CIB conducted searches on four properties in the suburbs of Prospect and Ravenswood.

During the searches 2 x stolen firearms were located, one of these having being shortened since it was stolen.

The 21 year old man was taken into custody in relation to investigation.  He will appear in an out of hours court this evening.

Investigations have shown that the parties involved in the incident are known to each other, Tasmania Police does not consider that the incident was in any way a random one.
