Update: Counterfeit $50 Notes Being Used In Southern Tasmania

Police have now received approximately 20 separate reports of counterfeit $50 notes being used in Southern Tasmania since Wednesday, 15 June 2016. All notes have different serial numbers, and a good likeness for a real $50 note but the colouring slightly darker.

Hotels, bottle shops, petrol stations and various retails shops have been targeted across Southern Tasmanian suburbs including Berridale, Moonah, Hobart, Snug, Sandy Bay and Kingston.

There are reportedly two offenders working together, driving a 1995 white Toyota Hilux flat tray, Registered Number D03FM. It is alleged the offenders are using the counterfeit notes to purchase items of little value, receiving the change and fleeing the scene.

One of the offenders (pictured) is aged in her early 20’s, slim build with long dark brown hair.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
