Unsubstantiated threats to Tasmanian schools

Police have received several unsubstantiated reports of threatening calls made towards a number of schools in Tasmania.

There is no evidence these are anything other than hoaxes designed to cause unnecessary disruption and inconvenience and are consistent with threats made to schools in other states.

The threats appear to come from overseas with no credible evidence they could be carried out here.

Investigations are underway and we are liaising with the Department of Education. Each affected school is following appropriate procedures to ensure safety of all.

Making threats is a serious criminal offence. Police are urging anyone with information in relation to these threats to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
