Approximately 1am on Sunday 1st June 2014 Devonport Police responded to a call to Frond Place Devonport in relation to a motor vehicle that had crashed into the front of a house.

Members of Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Fire Service also responded to the call.

Upon arrival police established that the driver of the small sedan was an unlicensed 13 year old male and the front adult passenger was intoxicated.

The intoxicated adult was licensed and had allowed the inexperienced teenager to drive his motor vehicle, on a wet road, at night, with a second teenager also in the vehicle. The adult was breath tested at the scene and returned an indication of 0.215%.

None of the occupants of the vehicle or house, were injured in the collision.  Both the front of the house and the motor vehicle however sustained significant damage.

Acting Sergeant Scott Poke said “The irresponsible behaviour of the intoxicated adult not only risked his life and the life of two teenagers within the vehicle, it also recklessly endangered the life of other road users and the occupants of the house.”

Both the driver and adult passenger will face charges in relation to this matter.
