A 55 year old man from Lauderdale will be charged by summons with lighting a fire contrary to a total fire ban.

At approximately 11:15am members of the public reported concerns that camper on Bassetts Road, Calder had lit a fire.  Members from Tasmania Police and Tasmania Fire Service attended and the man was located approximately 1km from his camp having allegedly left the fire unattended.  The fire was extinguished by Tasmania Fire Service officers.

This behaviour is extremely reckless given the current fire situation in Tasmania compounded by the fact the offender was prepared to leave the fire unattended.

The vigilance of passers-by is to be commended and removed the potential for another fire incident.
