At 7.10pm on Wednesday 26 April 2017, Tasmania Police and the Tasmania Fire Service were called to attend a unit fire at New St, Invermay.

Upon attendance the unit was completely alight and there were numerous onlookers in the immediate area.

The fire was extinguished and an exact cause has not yet been established.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire is suspicious.

Damage to the unit is estimated to be $180,000.

A fire scene guard is in place and a fire scene examination is to be conducted on the morning of 27 April 2017.

Police are following a specific line of enquiry in relation to the matter.
