U-Turn Program changes lives

It’s hoped the lives of a mother and her two young boys who were victims of a significant crime will be made a little easier today.

The graduates of U-Turn Course 45 presented a restored Ford Falcon to Alison Lander from Burnie.  Ms Lander’s sons Fletcher and Spencer suffered major burns in a car fire in 2012 and require ongoing medical treatment.

“Over the 10 week program, the six U-Turn participants have worked hard to restore the Ford Falcon,” said Commander Tony Cerritelli.

“The U-Turn program is designed to break the cycle of re-offending through restorative justice practices and providing pathways for employment and training.

“The participants graduate today with newly developed skills in mechanical work, heightened awareness of consequence, socially acceptable behaviours and confidence to engage and apply new found skills,” said Commander Cerritelli.

“The presentation of the restored vehicle to Ms Lander will provide the family with their own means of transport, making it easier to attend the boys’ medical appointments.”

“Graduates of Course 45 deserve our congratulations and we encourage them to take their new skills and confidence and work towards new goals,” said Commander Cerritelli.
