Two vehicle head-on crash, Sisters Hills

At approximately 1705 hrs on Thursday the 7th of June 2012 a two vehicle head on crash occurred on the Bass Highway at Sisters Hills.  The crash happened in a section of the road where there were overtaking lanes for both west bound and east bound traffic.

A west bound white Toyota Corolla station wagon, being driven a 24 year old Stanley woman, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed into an east bound white Toyota Hilux utility, being driven by a 19 year old Burnie man.  There was also a 20 year old Sisters Creek man who was a passenger in the utility.

The vehicles collided in the overtaking lane for east bound traffic and both were significantly damaged.  Both drivers extricated themselves from the vehicles.

All occupants were conveyed to the North West Regional Hospital at Burnie for treatment where they remain in a stable condition.

Alcohol, drugs and speed were not believed to be factors in the crash.  The crash was caused by the Toyota Corolla crossing to the incorrect side of the road, with the reason for the vehicle doing this still under investigation.

The Bass Highway was reduced to one lane for approximately 2 hours whilst Police conducted their investigations into the crash and cleared the road.

Members from the Boat Harbour Fire Brigade, Tasmanian Ambulance Service, Tasmanian Fire Service Rescue Unit, Wynyard Police, Western District Traffic Services and Western District Crash Investigation attended the scene.
