About 11am on Thursday 17 November 2017, Emergency Services were called to attend a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Bertha and Josephine Streets, West Ulverstone.

A motorcycle that had been travelling east on Bertha Street and a garbage compactor, that had been travelling south on Josephine Street, had collided.

As a result, the rider of the motorcycle, a 23 year old West Ulverstone man, received non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the garbage compactor was shaken but received no injuries.

The immediate area was closed for a short time whilst the rider received medical assistance and Police conducted an examination of the scene.  The motorcyclist was subsequently transported by Ambulance to the North West Regional Hospital, Burnie.

Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and remind motorcyclists of the importance of appropriate protection whilst riding.

Senior Sergeant Debbie Williams of Ulverstone Police said “fortunately the motorcyclist was wearing an appropriately fitted helmet and a protective jacket and these have played a critical part in ensuring his injuries were not more serious”.
