Two vehicle crash on Midland Highway, Oatlands

Police and emergency services attended a two vehicle crash on Midland Highway, Oatlands, earlier today.

Around 12.30pm this afternoon, a Ford ute travelling north on the Midland Highway collided with a fully laden semi trailer travelling south.

The ute appears to have crossed into the path of the semi trailer, colliding head on with the front of the semi trailer causing the ute to veer off the road and roll over down a grass embankment. This section of the highway isn’t divided by wire safety fencing.

The three occupants of the ute, a 33-year old man, a 64-year old woman and a child, all from the North West, were able to get out of the vehicle following the collision.

Ambulance Tasmania treated the three occupants on scene. They were later transported to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the semi trailer was uninjured and didn’t require medical treatment.

Speed, alcohol or drugs are not considered to be factors of the crash.

Traffic on the highway was interrupted for approximately one hour while the scene was cleared.
