Two Vehicle Crash – Midland Highway Oatlands

At approximately 1.10 p.m. on Sunday 18 September 2016, Police and Emergency Services were called to attend a two vehicle crash on the Midland Highway, approximately 2 km south of Oatlands. The crash occurred as a result of a trailer being towed by a White Mitsubishi Ute in a southerly direction, disconnecting from the vehicle. This caused the ute to roll over into the path of oncoming traffic, subsequently colliding with a Blue Toyota 4WD travelling north. The trailer avoided colliding with other vehicles and came to rest on the side of the highway.

The male driver of the Ute was trapped in his vehicle for a short time and had to be cut free by SES Road Accident Rescue personnel. The male was subsequently airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of the Toyota were not injured as a result of the crash.

Traffic flow was restricted to one lane but was able to be maintained throughout the incident.

Any witnesses to the crash are asked to contact Sergeant Rob Cooke at Oatlands Police Station on 6254 0014 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
