Two Vehicle Crash – Lilydale Rd, Rocherlea – 14/05/2022
A Hobart woman and seven people from the North-East were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Lilydale Rd, two kilometres from Rocherlea, on Saturday afternoon (14/5).
Multiple police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene at about 2.45pm.
The sole occupant of a blue Toyota Corolla, a provisional 2 driver from Hobart, was trapped in her vehicle for a short time. The occupants of a silver Mitsubishi outlander, a female driver, male front-seat passenger and five children, from the North-East were not trapped but sustained minor physical injuries.
The driver of the corolla was freed from the vehicle and taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. All occupants from the outlander were also taken to the LGH by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries.
Initial investigations determined driver inexperience and excessive speed for the conditions contributed to the crash.
“This is a timely reminder of the ‘fatal five’ (speeding, distraction, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, fatigue or failure to wear seatbelts), because they continue to feature frequently and prominently in serious casualty crashes,” Sergeant Sharee SMITH said.
“Drivers need to be mindful of the conditions and their experience level especially as we head into the colder months.
“It was fortunate that all occupants of the vehicles, in particular the children, were all correctly restrained which undoubtably prevented a considerably worse outcome.”
Anyone with information in relation to the crash or with dashcam footage has been asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
