Two people charged with multiple stealing offences in Hobart CBD

Two people have been charged in relation to several stealing offences committed in the Hobart CBD yesterday afternoon-evening.

Police will allege that about 4.10pm yesterday, a man entered a jewellery store in the Cat and Fiddle Arcade and stole a quantity of jewellery.

Witnesses reported to police that they had seen the man in the company of a woman a short time prior to this incident.

Police will further allege the woman who was reportedly seen with the man:

  • unlawfully entered a café in the Centrepoint Shopping Centre about 6.30pm and stole a quantity of cash.
  • smashed the display cabinet window of a jewellery store in the Centrepoint Shopping Centre about 6.40pm and stole a quantity of jewellery.
  • unlawfully entered an art studio on Macquarie Street about 6.50pm and stole several items including a laptop computer.

As part of the ongoing police investigation, last night officers from Hobart and Bellerive arrested a man and woman at an address in Warrane.

A 28-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with multiple offences including 3x stealing, injury property, and possess a controlled drug. He was remanded to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court today.

A 41-year-old woman of no fixed address has been charged with 3x burglary and 3x stealing. She was remanded in custody to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court later today.
