Two men have been charged following a serious assault in Hobart early this morning.

About 6.20am Tasmania Police responded to a report of an assault in Liverpool Street, near the Murray Street intersection, and arrested two men after locating them nearby.

They have been charged and bailed and will appear in court at a later date.

The victim was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Police would like to thank those witnesses who have already come forward for their valued assistance. Anyone else who may have witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact police.
