Two men charged over attempted car jacking

Two Claremont men have been charged over an attempted car jacking in a Claremont car park.

 

Police allege a man parked in his green Ford Cougar sedan around midnight on Friday 22 September near the eastern entry to Claremont Village Shopping Centre when he was approached by the two alleged offenders.

 

The two alleged offenders demanded his car keys and assaulted the man before leaving without the keys.

 

Police also allege the same two offenders forced entry to the Claremont RSL, Bilton Street, Claremont, on 26 September and stole alcohol.

 

A 34 year old man was charged with attempted aggravated carjacking, aggravated burglary, burglary and two counts of stealing.

 

A 28 year old man was charged with attempted aggravated carjacking, burglary and stealing. The man was detained for court.

 

Both will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court today at 2.15pm.

 

The men have been charged under the new laws relating to car jacking.
