Two men arrested over Devonport disturbance
Two Devonport men, aged 32 and 34, were arrested by police attending a disturbance in Rooke Street, Devonport about 7pm last night.
“Today we have become aware that prior to these arrests there appears to have been a number of assaults which we are now investigating having today received formal complaints,” Detective Inspector Kim Steven said.
“Our investigation so far has found that a group of men and women, who are all well known to each other, have been at the Devonport Cup and later some of them have travelled on the same bus into the city.
“On leaving the bus they have again met with others of the group who had travelled in by other means and it appears that the altercation between a number of these people has occurred. Some of which has been captured on social media.
“We will be interviewing several people over the next 48 hours to gain a clearer picture of what has occurred and following that we will decide on who will be charged with what offences.”
Anyone with information should contact Devonport CIB on 131444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 000 333 or crimestopperstas.com.au, particularly anyone who may have further video footage of the incident.
