Two people were charged with high-range drink driving in Wynyard overnight.

Wynyard Police intercepted both drivers within six hours of each other during routine patrols.

The first driver – a 35-year-old Wynyard woman – was travelling with a child in the back seat when she was intercepted on Saunders Street in Wynyard about 4.45pm.

The woman returned a roadside reading of 0.201, and breath analysis reading of 0.219 – more than four times the legal alcohol limit.

She was charged with driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit and failing to comply with conditions of a driver’s licence.

She has been disqualified from driving for 24 months.

Later in the evening the second driver – a 36-year-old man from Western Australia – was intercepted on Oldina Road.

He returned a roadside reading of 0.180, and a breath analysis reading of 0.173 – more than three times the legal alcohol limit.

He was charged with driving a motor vehicle while exceeding the prescribed alcohol limit, driving whilst his driver’s licence was suspended, abuse police and threaten police.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

Burnie Inspector Adrian Shadbolt said driving while under the influence of alcohol puts both the individual and other road users at risk.

“We will continue to proactively patrol our roads to ensure everyone is doing the right thing,” he said.

“Road safety is a community responsibility.”
