Bridgewater Police is continuing to target illegal and dangerous use of both trail bikes and road bikes within the area with the use of drones.

This morning, Tasmania Police was notified by members of the public of a blue and white road bike driving dangerously in Bridgewater. The bike was reported to have two occupants with the pillion not wearing a helmet. The road bike was further reported to have been travelling at high speeds, traveling on the incorrect side of the road, and contravening other traffic road rules. Police attempted to intercept the motorcycle however it evaded police and continued to drive dangerously. Bridgewater Police deployed the drone which tracked the motorcycle to parkland in Gagebrook. Two male youths aged 15 and 16 years, both of Bridgewater, were apprehended quickly by police.

The 16 year old male was arrested and charged with dangerous driving, evade police (aggravated circumstances) and unlicenced riding. He was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court (Youth Justice Division).

The motorbike was seized indefinitely, and an application will be made for the forfeiture of the road bike.

Police will continue to target the illegal use of trail bike and road bikes as this behaviour is a risk to other motorists, the rider and pillion passenger of the motor bike and police.
