Two charged after Launceston airport intercept
Launceston Detectives following a specific line of enquiry have arrested a man and woman at Launceston Airport after they flew in from Melbourne on Tuesday afternoon.
The couple who claimed to not know each other were searched by Detectives from the Northern Drug Investigation Services. The search revealing that each has a quantity of methylamphetamine, commonly known as ICE strapped to their legs.
The pair were conveyed to Launceston Police Headquarters where they were held until the contents of the packages were verified.
They both later formally charged with importation and trafficking of a controlled substance and will appear in court at a later date.
Police allege the street value of drugs seized is approximately $150,000.
