Two arrested in Gagebrook incident – a woman and three police injured
Two people were arrested in Gagebrook last night after a woman was assaulted and the arrest of the alleged offender resulted in the deployment of OC spray and three police officers injured.
Police attended an address in Allan Place, Bridgewater after a report of a disturbance, arriving just after 11pm. A woman at the address had received head injuries and was treated in hospital before being discharged today.
Police then attended Sattler Street, where a 30-year-old man from Gagebrook was arrested for assaulting the woman earlier in the night.
It will be alleged that during that arrest the man bit a male police officer on the hand, bit another male police officer on the arm and kicked a female police officer to the head. OC spray was deployed by police.
The man remains in custody while investigations continue and it is expected he will be charged later today in relation to the assault against the woman and against police.
A 29-year-old woman from Gagebrook was also arrested at the Sattler Street address for assaulting a police officer and obstructing police. She was bailed to appear in court at a later date.
Senior Sergeant Phil Curtis from Bridgewater Police Station said:
“No member of the community should have to suffer violence and a man remains in custody while investigations continue.
“Police at the address were dealing with a very unpredictable situation.
“While there is risk associated with every incident police attend, violence is not acceptable.
“The officers were not seriously injured but will require follow-up medical assessments,” he said.
