Truck Rollover – Burnie
At about 10am on Saturday the 25 August 2012 a fully laden log truck turning from Old Surrey Road onto the Bass Highway at Burnie, rolled depositing its load on the highway.
As the truck turned a white Ford laser sedan travelling in the same direction changed to the right hand lane. The logs rolled onto the left hand lane and appeared to have gone underneath the vehicle lifting it across the traffic island and coming to rest amongst the logs in the left eastbound lane. The vehicle contained two adults and two young children. All were uninjured. The vehicle is a write off.
A white Ford Courier utilty was being driven east in the right hand lane along the highway at the time. The driver, the sole occupant, observed the truck start to roll and pulled into the left lane. His vehicle was struck by logs. The driver was uninjured and his vehicle suffered significant damage.
The highway was closed for about 4 hours and traffic was diverted. A loader from the nearby Massey Green Log Mill was used to load the logs into other trucks. Two cranes were utilised to pick up the truck and trailer.
Any witnesses are asked to contact Burnie Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
