Truck fire George Town

At approximately 6:45pm on Wednesday, 15 May 2013, George Town Police and the Tasmania Fire Service attended a vehicle fire on Mary Street, George Town.

A parked truck, loaded with a number of lead acid batteries, was found to be on fire. As a precautionary measure, the occupants of three homes in the immediate area were evacuated.

A section of Mary Street was closed for one hour whilst Tasmania Fire Service personnel extinguished the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, and no persons were injured during the incident.  The people evacuated from their homes have been allowed to return, and at no time was there any danger to members of the public.
