Truck crash – Buckland
At 4.20pm on Sunday 18 March 2018 Tasmania Police, received a report of a truck crash on a private property near Buckland. Information received was that the truck had rolled and the driver was trapped under the truck.
Sorell and Triabunna police officers attended along with a number of Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Ambulance Service resources including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
Upon arrival at the property the truck was located on a private road and was on its roof with extensive crush damage to the cabin. The only occupant of the truck, a 66 year old man was conscious in the cabin. The truck had significant damage to the fuel tanks and diesel fuel was throughout the cabin.
Emergency services then proceeded to cut the driver free over the next 2 hours. Once removed from the truck the driver was conscious and was treated by emergency services at the scene before being flown to the RHH by rescue Helicopter. The driver did not have any serious injuries.
At this stage it appears the driver was dropping a load of gravel onto the private road when the truck appears to have lost traction due to the recent rain and has hit a bank and rolled onto its roof.
Senor Sergeant Hodge stated:
“The 66 year old man was conscious throughout the incident and is very lucky to have escaped without serious injury. Work place standards were notified and the investigation into the exact cause of the crash is ongoing but no charges will be laid.”
