Train incident Claremont

A 62 year old woman from Claremont is in a critical condition after a southbound train collided with her on the level crossing at Boxhill Road, Claremont at about 9.30am this morning.

At the time of the collision she was walking a dog.  The dog received minor leg injuries.

The flashing warning lights and audible alert were operating at the level crossing.  The pedestrian was conveyed to the Royal Hobart Hospital by ambulance.

The train had two locomotive engines and 15 wagons.

The road was closed for approximately three hours whilst crash investigators examined the scene.

The police investigator, Senior Constable Kelly CORDWELL would like to hear from any member of the public who may have witnessed the incident or observed the pedestrian beforehand.
