Members from Western District Drug Investigation Services have this morning charged a 52 year old Oatlands man with Trafficking in a controlled substance as the result of a vehicle interception in East Devonport.

The vehicle was stopped having disembarked the Spirit of Tasmania on the evening of Sunday 27 February 2011.

The subsequent search located a substantial quantity of cannabis (6.5kgs) hidden inside the vehicle.

The cannabis had a value of approximately $45,000.

The man will appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court this morning.

Investigations are continuing and further charges are expected to be laid in coming days.
