Traffic operation detects high range drink driver
A traffic operation conducted at Austins Ferry on Wednesday evening by Southern Traffic police resulted in 400 drivers being checked for alcohol and drugs.
A Claremont woman returned a reading of 0.212, effectively 4 times over the legal limit. She was arrested and will appear in court at a later date.
Police also detected:
- two drivers who returned positive results for illicit drugs, one was also unlicensed
- another driver exceeding 0.05 in Austins Ferry
- Another two drivers exceeding 0.05 in the Glenorchy area later in the evening.
“Police remain concerned that motorists continue to drive whilst under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs,” said Acting Sergeant Amerikanos.
“Drugs and Alcohol are among the Fatal Five contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes on our roads.
‘It is disappointing that a small percentage of drivers continue to put their lives and the lives of others at risk because of their behaviour.” said Acting Sergeant Amerikanos.
