Traffic offences posted on social media

Police investigations into the driving behaviour in a video posted on a social media site has resulted in action being taken against the driver.

The video showed a vehicle travelling through a red light at the intersection of Main and Creek Roads, New Town, narrowly avoiding colliding with pedestrians.

The offence had been recorded on an in-car dash camera and posted to social media.

Officers from Southern Road and Public Order Services were made aware of the video yesterday and investigated the incident.  A 30 year old woman from Claremont was interviewed and she has received an infringement notice.

Investigations are continuing in relation to the other vehicle seen to be committing a traffic offence, in the recording.

Police wish to encourage members of the public to forward recordings of such incidents to Police so they can be investigated.  If police are made aware of the incident as soon as possible, it greatly assists any investigation.

“We are thankful this particular video was shared with us in a timely manner and the matter resolved quickly,” said Sergeant McCulloch.
