Top police award for courageous officers after violent home invasion

Two police officers who disarmed offenders of a knife and a shot gun during a home invasion will today each receive a Commissioner’s Certificate of Commendation.

The certificate is awarded for their “courage” and will be presented at a ceremony at Tasmania Police Academy, Rokeby at 2pm today.

Constables Anna Page and Carly Lovell, both of Glenorchy, were first on scene at a late night home invasion in Hobart’s northern suburbs in August, 2012 when they were confronted with the violent situation.

Two masked men armed with a large knife had broken into a house by smashing a window. Their intent was to recover a drug debt.

A man who lived at the house was armed with a shot gun.

Upon arrival the two officers confronted one of the masked men outside the house and disarmed him of a 25cm hunting knife.

Constable Page then went inside and sprayed the other intruder with capsicum spray before disarming the third man of the shot gun.

More officers then arrived and were able to help restrain the men.

Commissioner Darren Hine said:

“The two officers had to think quickly and act bravely in the face of what would have been a very intimidating situation.

“I’m very pleased to present these commendations and thank them for their outstanding response.”

Constable Anna Page receives her award for: “Leadership, courage, initiative and professionalism displayed when responding to a violent home invasion on 26 August 2012 which resulted in the arrest of three males for serious crimes.”

Constable Carly Lovell receives her award for: “Courage, support and assistance when she arrested several males involved in a violent home invasion on 26 August 2012.”
