Three people charged with arson – Smithton house fire

At 8:00pm on Friday 1 July 2016, Tasmania Police and the Tasmania Fire Service were called to attend a structure fire in Gibson Street, Smithton.
Upon arrival, fire crews found a vacant residential house alight. Extensive internal damage was caused to the house – estimated at $100,000.
The house was unoccupied at the time of the fire and there were no injuries sustained.

 

Following an investigation by the Burnie Criminal Investigation Branch, Smithton Police and Tasmania Fire Service, three people have been arrested and charged in relation to the fire.
A 21 year old Smithton woman, a  39 year old man from Smithton and a 39 year old man from Burnie have been charged with arson.

 

The trio have been bailed to attend court at a later date.
