Three people charged for drug related matters in Acton (Burnie)

Tasmania Police recently seized a number of packages from the Burnie Mail Centre that contained cannabis oil infused gummy bears.  The seizure was conducted in cooperation with Australia Post.

Last Friday police conducted an operation at a residence in Odgen Street, Acton (Burnie).  A search of the premises was conducted with a large quantity of cannabis and 47 cannabis plants located.  Police also located a further quantity of cannabis oil infused gummy bears.

A 47-year-old Acton woman, a 23-year-old Acton man and a 19-year-old Acton man were all arrested and charged with a number of drug offences, including trafficking in a controlled substance. They were bailed to appear in the Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.

Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Parker said “It is concerning that people are manufacturing confectionery infused with cannabis oil, as the confectionery could be easily mistaken as legitimate. We will continue to target people who distribute drugs and illicit substances, which causes significant harm to the community. Distribution of drugs has the potential to encourage criminal activity, anti-social behaviour, or breaches of our laws.”

Anyone with information about drug distribution should contact Police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au
