Three Motor Vehicle Crashes Involving Pedestrians

On Friday the 24 October 2014 between 1710hrs and 2130hrs Devonport and Ulverstone Police attended three separate incidents of motor vehicles hitting pedestrians crossing the road.

The first crash occurred at approximately 1710hrs when a female pedestrian was hit crossing the road at Queen Street, Ulverstone. Fortunately the female did not suffer from any significant injuries as a result of the crash.

The second crash occurred at 1750hrs at the intersection of Best and Rooke Street Devonport. The driver of a Holden flat tray travelling on Rooke Street was turning right onto Best Street hit a pedestrian crossing at the pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian suffered serious injury and was conveyed to Hospital.

The third crash occurred at the intersection of Best and Fenton Street at approximately 2130hours, the driver of a black hatchback on Fenton Street, Devonport turned left onto Best Street and hit a pedestrians crossing at the pedestrian crossing. The pedestrian suffered injury and was taken to hospital.

It is believed that the weather conditions this evening were a significant contributing factor in all three crashes, fine / misty rain and dark clouds effecting visibility.

Police urge all drivers and pedestrians using the roads to be extra vigilant when travelling in these conditions.
