Three Hummock Island rescue
On Sunday 6 December, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was activated to assist a commercial scallop vessel approximately 32NM north of Three Hummock Island, with a crew member who was suffering seizures.
The helicopter was suspended from the search at Zeehan and flew to Three Hummock Island where the crew member was transferred to shore by the pilot, paramedic and helicopter crew, in the Islands tender vessel and taken to the helicopter in the island’s Troopcarrier.
The patient was flown to Launceston General Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The crew of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter would like to thank Mary Kay at Smithton Radio for assistance in communicating with the Scallop Vessel and John and Bev O’Brien at Three Hummock Island Wilderness Accommodation for their assistance.
