Two youths and an adult woman have been charged with aggravated armed robbery following an incident at a store in Chapel St, Glenorchy yesterday.

A youth reportedly entered the store wearing a balaclava and in possession of a knife about 3:45pm, while a second youth waited by the door.

The pair allegedly stole a quantity of cigarettes and cash, and were seen running to a nearby grey Holden sedan (registration K80YK) before being driven away by a woman.

No one was physically injured during the robbery.

Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby of Glenorchy CIB said police responded immediately and the abandoned vehicle was located nearby a short time later.

“Police identified an address of interest where two youths and a 35-year-old woman were arrested,” he said.

“The knife police will allege was used in the robbery was located during a search, as was stolen property.” 

“All three people have been interviewed and charged with aggravated armed robbery, and will reappear in court at a later date.”

“These kinds of crimes are very serious and understandably they can be very confronting for business owners as well as the wider public, but the quick actions of police meant the alleged offenders were located quickly and safely taken into custody.”

“Criminals should take note that offenders will be caught and charged over robberies, so it is not a viable option to get quick or easy access to cash or other goods.”

“The overwhelming evidence shows that you will be arrested and will face court and potential jail time over this sort of behaviour.”
